a bit of nostalgia #2.

Let's move forward in time and discover the next lesson in my musical developement. These guys are probably seriously hated by tons of people. Let me just tell you that I'm not one of them. I was 11 and heard this song on the Swedish pop chart program Voxpop. It was just before the summer holidays between 4th and 5th grade, the summer of exceptional heat and warming sun, and it was just like something clicked. I never had a crush on Taylor (I probably agreed with eveyone that they all did look like girls) but I did have a massive crush on this song. On our family's roadtrip to France that summer I listened patiently for the song to appear on the radio. And each time it did it was like every cell in my body wanted to smile. I think I fell in love with music from here on. I abandoned my anti-CD attitude (what the hell was so wrong with tapes?) and bought a CD player so that I could buy "Middle of Nowhere". The album smelled sweet and wonderful (not even today have I owned an album smelling so significant). I spent ours reading the lyrics, dreaming away in every song. I wished I was part of Hanson. Every day after school I came home to listen to the album over and over, pretending to play piano while I was doing my homework. It was too bad I was given the wrong musical instrument to play back then, I would probably have rocked my socks off if I had played guitar, keyboard or drums.

a bit of nostalgia.

Being home often hits me with funny, familiar, embarrassing and sometimes really cheesy memories. I guess you call that nostalgia. Today I've had this song on my mind, it's like an anthem of Stina, 6 years old. Me and my friend used to dance to this song and we knew all the awesome moves. I was the girl to the right, the one with the stairy oh-i'm-so-sexy eyes, basically because her name was Susie and my name started with the same letter. My friend was Lili, because her name started with the same letter. So convinient and perfect. Such awesome song too, even though I don't really know what it's about. I was told as a child that it was about a mother who was blind and deaf and that was why they had to "ring the bell". I was so missled... if anyone could tell me what the lyrics really mean, like in a good context that makes sense, please enlighten me!

The snow outside is 2 feet deep, so both me an my cats stays indoors a lot. Yeah, I know, I talk about those cats all the time, but what can you do when they're so darn cute! For one thing they don't give me much work space, because they need to be close for cuddles. That is just so fucking adorable I really don't mind having them laying across my keyboard making my typing look LIKE THIS !""##€#.

In Scandinavia we have this thing called "Name day" which nearly noone celebrates, but is basically the celebration of names which has been given a day in the calendar. Today I celebrate my camera...

whale cemetery.

Just remembered seeing these images on tv this morning of a whale cemetery in Greenland. I'm such a sucker for big animals (not just dinosaurs) and all kinds of whales has always been close to my heart. This footage is just so cool. Imagine a nose bone of 4 meters! Damn, I wish I had the guts to learn how to dive when I see this. (By the way, ignore the German dude in this clip if you don't speak Brüno, the whale stuff is at the end of it all).

soviet vintage.

My mother brought a bunch of hardcover books from her school for me to recycle into fancy pancy sketchbooks. I really liked this one, a book of facts about Soviet - "the world's biggest country". It raises important questions such as "are women and men equal?" and "does people go to church?". I wonder if I was even alive when kids used this book in the schools...

sketchbook update.

The sketchbook addiction followed me to Sweden. Here are the latest creations. The bottom two are part of a super-awesome collaboration with my textile printing friend Mikaela. Have been listening to this song all day to not miss everyone too much. The last couple of days have been filled with crazy fun with my amazing friends from far and beyond. I love you guys and thank you so much for giving me the best birthday party ever. I hope I'll see you all soon.

I got myself a type- psychoanalysis from Pentagram. According to their expert (who sounds a lot like Stefan Sagmeister) I am New Alphabet, an almost illegible typeface designed by Dutch designer Wim Crowel in 1967; "If you are a statement maker (and when that statement makes perfect sense to you it is immaterial if it makes no sense to anyone else) then New Alphabet is your type". winter.

Winter. I don't like it. It's cold, it's messy, it's too long. Three years in the UK and I completely forgot about winter-itchy skin and cracked lips, about the mornings of "holly fuck! Is it really THAT cold?!" and watching the sun rise and set in the matter of just a few hours. Sure, there's nice things too. Like today, when I found this amazing little trail just a block from my house. I can't believe I haven't been walking this way before. It's almost like discovering Narnia in your backyard.

new habits.

The new year started with a new habit; waking up dead early and going for walks in the snow with me mum. It prevents being a slacker and sleeping all day, plus it's good with a little excercise and quality time with the parent. I recommend it, even though it makes me slow like a freakin' zombie for the rest of the day.

I've just discovered this awesome new program that allows you to transform your ordinary photographs into polaroids. It's a lot of fun and works just like a real polaroid where you see the photograph being developed. You can download Poladroid for free.

I Blame Coco for putting this song on repeat in my head all day. I love the laurel wreath she's wearing in the video by the way. It looks awesome, I want one too! I wonder if you need to be an Olympic winner up to get one...

My new favourite; Lykke Li. She's been around for a while, but it took me some life experience to like what she's doing. Now I adore her music.
